I’m happy to share with you my recommended Maine Coon Breeders.  As much as I’d like to always have fur bomb European Maine Coon Kittens available for you, the future Sassy Koonz Guardian, it’s just not possible.

Since I’m a small Maine Coon cattery, I’ll only have a couple of litters of Maine Coon kittens for Sale each year. This means that the timing might not be perfect for you, because you’re looking to add a new member to your family now, and you don’t want to wait for a Sassy Koons kitten.   I utterly and completely understand that you may not want to wait on Sassy Koonz orto find your purrfect love.   I’ve been where you are…SEVERAL TIMES!

To make it on my list of recommended Maine Coon Breeders, I must be able to sleep at night knowing that I’ve sent you to a reputable [in my eyes] Maine Coon Cattery on your quest to find your precious kitten.

Sassy Koonz Recommends Maine Coon Breeders under the following Guidelines:

  • I have personally worked with them to purchase a Maine Coon Kitten and I’m 100% satisfied with my experience.
  • I know someone personally who has purchased a kitten from them, and they’re 100% satisfied.
  • I’ve personally communicated with the Maine Coon Breeders on this list, know a bit about their Maine Coon Cattery, and I feel confident sending future Guardians to them.

I don’t take the recommendation of recommending Maine Coon Breeders lightly. I know how important it is to know that your Maine Coon kitten has been well-socialized, well taken care of, and the health and temperament of the cats is ultimately what’s the most important qualities.

Please note that if a particular Maine Coon Breeder isn’t on my list, it only means that they don’t meet one of the requirements mentioned above. 🙂 And since I’m fairly new to the Cat Fancy, I don’t know a whole heap of people yet.  I’m sure this list of Recommended Maine Coon Breeders will grow as more time passes.

If you’d like to be added to my list of Maine Coon Breeders, just send me a message, let’s talk!

Choosing a Maine Coon Breeder

Beginning your search for a Maine Coon Breeder can be overwhelming at first. Once you start the journey of finding the perfect kitten, so many different things will happen. You’ll quickly get sucked into the world of looking at kitten pictures all day!  Maybe even all night!!  Then you’ll start to realize that although they’re just tiny babies, most of the kittens have already been reserved. Then you start to dig deeper, looking for a breeder who has available Maine Coon kittens!

That’s when you realize that you will most likely need to get on some waiting lists. This is the best way to get the opportunity to see available kittens first before they’re offered to the public.

Everyone handles their “waiting lists” differently, so read about their processes on their websites so you know what to expect.

Sassy Koonz has a Kitten Announcement List, and kittens are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Feel free to get on our announcement list if you want to be notified any time we have Sassy Babies, and when they’re ready to be reserved.

When it comes to choosing a Maine Coon Breeder to help you find your precious kitten, it should all boil down to who you feel the most comfortable working with after you’ve done your initial vetting. You’re going to be working with this breeder for at least a couple of months, getting updates, photos, and videos of your kitten.

Outstanding Cattery Awards

The International Cat Association awards elite titles to catteries that have proven to have excellent standards. Sassy Koonz is proud to be one of the VERY FEW catteries in the United States to hold this badge of honor.  You can always check the list of Outstanding Catteries and check to see if the breeder you’re talking to about a kitten is on the list.

  1. Thanks for your list, I’ve been thinking about becoming a breeder after I lost my first mainecoon to FIP. I spoke with the breeder who seemed apologetic but then I realized that the environment wasn’t very good, this was when I came to pick up my second kitten since the breeder said it was a rare case and he knows he couldn’t replace my first baby so he wanted to make it up to me somehow. I got my second kitten but I noticed he wasn’t very clean and that he was very skittish . The breeder is very reputable and won many awards but I now see that they breed purely for profit and praise (trophies). Something I’m not interested in these cats and owners deserve better, I can do better . I love the breed and I just don’t think it’s right to breed cats and sell them sick or not with a good temperament. With that being said I have no idea how to really get started and I’m almost certain that the breeder won’t release my current cats breeding rights (who new story all together). So I’m looking for pointers in how to get started , any guidance or recommendations would be appreciated. And if I ever buy another kitten I’ll be coming your way or to one of the breeders that you recommend at least I know that they are healthy and I won’t have to go through the Emotional pain that I went though with my first baby.

  2. Hi!
I am trying to find information on Kanucoons.com
I watched your how to not get scammed post and am trying to find other reviews aside from the ones listed on the site.
By chance have you ever worked with or know anything of this breeder?
Your thoughts and time are greatly appreciated.
