Is there such a thing as the perfect Maine Coon? Every Maine Coon is unique and has its own set of personality traits, habits, and quirks. No two Maine Coons are the same, and that’s what makes them so unique.
Help With the Decision Making Process
Dear Fellow Maine Coon Lover,
It is certainly my goal to produce nothing less than perfect Maine Coon kittens. This is what I want more than anything for both you and me.
But, cats are similar to humans, or any living creature for that matter. They aren’t born without flaw. Whether it be a health issue, crossed eyes or a bad attitude, it can certainly happen. There’s really no way for a Maine Coon breeder to predict exactly how the kittens will develop and mature into adults.
While beauty is what you see on the surface, health is my top priority. Sometimes a breeding cat may have a health problem that doesn’t surface until age 1, 2, or older. If that issue is deemed to be genetic, then that cat is retired. If it could cause potential health issues for their offspring, the cat is no longer used in my program. I’ve retired cats for reasons like entropion, and a mom who produced kittens with FIP.
Surveys are sent out every year to every kitten owner who has one of my kittens. I ask for updates on health and temperaments. These help me learn and understand the breed better. They also influence my choices on pairing my cats and the bloodlines I choose to reproduce. I read every report and discuss things with the owners, if necessary.
Working on my breeding program is constant. There will never be a point when I feel like I’ve reached perfection. There will always be room for improvement. Once the kittens go home, you will have 100% of my support for the cat’s lifetime.
Thank you so much for being a fan of Sassy Koonz Maine Coons. Working with this breed and producing kittens that you will love forever is truly an honor. The road that led me to this is not anything I ever expected, but I’m glad i took the detour. Stay classy!

There is no one correct answer, and what one person considers perfect, another may not. Furthermore, when it comes to appearance, the idea of the perfect Maine Coon is subjective. Some may prefer the traditional look of a classic Maine Coon, while others are drawn to the more exotic European look.
Realistic expectations about Maine Coons
When buying a kitten from a breeder, you must have realistic expectations about what to expect from your new pet. Breeders can often provide specific information about a kitten’s breed, appearance, and temperament. But, there are always uncertainties and variables. These can impact the growth and development of the animal.
Your kitten may still develop health problems as it grows even with proper care and veterinary attention. Additionally, kittens can take time to adjust to their new homes and may exhibit nervous behaviors at first.
As the owner, you are responsible for providing a safe and loving environment for your new pet. Understand that building a strong bond with your kitten may take time and patience.
In reality, though, it’s tough to find a perfect (by definition) cat. No breeder anywhere in the world can or should promise you a kitten without flaw. It would be an impossible claim to make, knowing that kittens and cats are living animals. We can’t predict the future for them, just like we can’t expect that for ourselves.
The perfect Maine Coon is the one that is perfect for you.
