💉 Health Monitoring & Genetic Testing

Every breeding cat at Sassy Koonz stays under close observation. We monitor them during their time as active breeding cats in our program. We can’t guarantee the future health of any kitten we produce. Nonetheless, we can take necessary steps to choose the best quality cats as their parents.

Every Breeding Cat at Sassy Koonz receives:

• DNA-testing through Wisdom Health for genetic diseases known to affect the Maine Coon breed. These include HCM, SMA, PKD, and PKDef.
• Hip X-rays taken by our vet and then graded by OFA. Only cats that grade “Fair” or better are used in our program.
• Annual health examinations and vaccine updates by our trusted veterinarian.

Annual Surveys from Owners of Our Kittens

Every year on the kittens’ birthday, we send a survey to every owner of our kittens. The survey collects information about the cat. It covers its health, personality, habits, and more. This survey helps us keep track of our bloodlines. Most importantly, it helps us make informed breeding decisions. If we see a history of health issues, we will retire that adult early.

At Sassy Koonz, we also believe in sharing the health history of our offspring. In our entire experience as Pedigree Maine Coon breeders, we’ve never encountered another breeder. None have been willing to share this data with the public openly. Most will claim that 100% of their cats are healthy. But that is impossible.

Our approach to transparency is a bit unorthodox. We want you to realize:

• It’s always possible that your kitten may be diagnosed with a health issue at some point in it’s life.
• We’re transparent with issues that arise in our lines, and take actions to remove and/or reduce them.
• We’re willing to share our health data with you. This will help you make good decisions when choosing a breeder to work with. The more you know, the easier that decision will be.

📜 Health Guarantees & Contract

One of the most important clauses in your contract with a breeder is the health guarantee. This is a sign of how strongly they stand behind their kittens if something does happen to them.

Sassy Koonz is the only Maine Coon breeder in the United States to offer an iron-clad Seven-Year Health Guarantee.

If your cat experiences an event leading to the loss of life, we will happily replace the kitten. This includes genetic, congenital, idiopathic, and accidents!

Sassy Koonz prides itself in having the most buyer-friendly contract in the entire United States. We encourage you to compare our agreement to any other breeder and decide for yourself.

🩺 Kitten Care & Veterinary Transparency

Every kitten leaves our home fully vetted, vaccinated, and microchipped. We share all medical information to the new owner. This includes vaccination records, de-worming schedules, and any observations made during routine health exams.

Between the age of 8-9 weeks old, every kitten will get a full comprehensive health examination by a licensed veterinarian. A Health Certificate is issued before the kitten goes home.

If a worrying issue arises before your kitten comes home, you’ll be informed promptly. Honesty protects everyone involved, especially your kitten.

🏡 Environment & Socialization

Sassy Koonz Maine Coon kittens are raised in our home and surrounded by everyday sounds. We have a dedicated bedroom in our home for the Queen and her kittens to grow up. This keeps them secure and safe until they’re ready to go home. They experience human interaction and enjoy endless love from the moment they’re born.

We openly share photos, videos, and behind-the-scenes moments. This way, you can see exactly how your kitten is being raised. You can also see how your kitten is being socialized.

Part of our kitten socialization process is:

• Daily handling of the kittens starting at 10 days old
• Kittens get visited and handled by various age groups ranging from infants to adults
• Introduction to other cats at 9 weeks old (After vaccines)
• Plenty of loud music, loud talking, multiple people in the home, neighbors, football games, vacuum cleaners, and toddler interaction.

This transparency lets you feel the care that goes into each little Sassy Koonz baby.

All Sassy Koonz kittens are registered with TICA and come with an authentic, traceable pedigree. We’re proud of our bloodlines. We are happy to educate buyers about what registration means. It reflects the kitten’s lineage and breed standard.
